Avalanche warning for region Lofoten og Vesterålen Monday 30.12.2019

Storm and wind slabs in the alpine can give unstable conditions. More stable snowpack in lower areas and closer to the coast.

New snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

You can trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snødekket er endra etter mildvêret søndag. Det forventast at snøoverflata stort sett er smelteomvandla, i dei aller høgaste fjellområda kan det finnast store fokksnøansamlingar. i Lofoten er det lite snø igjen under 300 moh.

Laurdag vart det observert våte flak- og laussnøskred i Lofoten.

15 mm precipitation, up to 30 mm in the most exposed areas. Strong breeze from southwest. -3 °C to 5 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Monday 30. December 2019

6 mm precipitation, up to 12 mm in the most exposed areas. Moderate gale from southwest, changing to strong breeze from the northeast during the afternoon. -4 °C to 4 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Nedbør og vind fører til at det vert danna fersk fokksnø i leområder i fjellet. Skiftande vindretningar gjer at alle himmelretningar kan vere utsatte. I låglandet kan det framleis gå enkelte våte skred der det regnar på snøen. Skredfaren er avtakande.
